Jazzy digital dashboard feels fresh and inventive.

Two well-educated men held for auto thefts

Two well-educated young men have been arrested for alleged involvement in several cases of auto theft. Eight stolen luxury cars have allegedly been seized.

A South Delhi Police team was carrying out routine vehicle check near Anupam Apartments in Neb Sarai on December 31 when they stopped two men driving a Honda City car and asked them to produce the ownership documents of the vehicle Launch IV Scanner. The percentage of loans going to subprime buyers rose 8 percent in the third quarter, their first year-over-year increase since 2007, according to a report issued Tuesday by Experian , a credit reporting agency. For new cars, the percentage of loans going to subprime buyers rose 13 percent over the July-September period in 2009. The increase for used cars was 3 percent.

The majority of loans — 63 percent — still going to buyers with prime credit scores, which is defined as a 680 or above MaxiScan MS509 Scanner. But even that is settling into a more normal pattern. Before the recession, when credit was very loose, just 51 percent of loans were going to prime buyers, according to Melinda Zabritski , director of automotive credit at Experian. Last fall, when credit was tight, 66 percent of loans went to prime buyers.

Another sign that the credit market is thawing: The loans people are getting are covering larger amounts and have longer terms. The average amount financed for new cars rose $2,530, to $25,273, over the third quarter of last year, while the average amount financed for used cars grew $977 to $16,706. Zabritski said the loosening in auto lending is likely to continue to grow in the near term. On Oct. 1, General Motors Co. finalized its purchase of AmeriCredit Inc. , a Texas -based company that specializes in subprime lenders and has a $9 billion portfolio of subprime loans. AmeriCredit had already been helping GM with subprime loans, which amount to 4 percent of the automaker's sales. But GM now expects that to grow by a percent or two, a significant number considering that GM is on pace to sell more than 2 million cars and trucks in the U.S. this year.

Banks and auto financing companies feel they can afford to take bigger risks because consumers are being more cautious with their money and savings rates are up. The percentage of loans that were delinquent for 30 days fell 8 percent in the third quarter, to 3 percent, while the percentage of loans delinquent for 60 days fell 17 percent, to less than 1 percent X431 IV.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- The auto industry says people under 34 are gradually starting to buy cars again as their economic circumstances improve.

After the Great Recession, sales of cars to young people dropped significantly. Fewer of them even bothered to get drivers licenses. Some experts surmised that the group lost interest in cars because of the prevalence of social media.

Data presented at a big industry conference in Northern Michigan on Tuesday show that young cars buyers are making a slow, if uneven, return to the market.

People age 18 to 34 accounted for more than 14 percent of the U.S. new car market just five years ago, but that plunged to 10.5 percent in 2011, to according to registration data collected by the Polk auto research firm. The figure grew to 12.3 percent last year.

Licensing rates led some industry analysts to conclude that young people, who meet constantly on Facebook and other social media, have less need to travel and aren't interested in buying cars - even when they grow older. In 1984, nearly 80 percent of people ages 16-24 had driver's licenses, but that fell to only 68 percent in 2010 Autel MS509. In the next-oldest demographic group, 25- to 34-year-olds, 95 percent had licenses in 1984, but that dropped to 88 percent in 2010.

But industry executives at Tuesday's conference had a different take.

Mohatarem and others at the conference said young people put off getting licenses because they've had trouble getting jobs and have been living with their parents. In addition, Federal Reserve data show that people age 18 to 34 lost 44 percent of their net worth between 2001 and 2010, yet their aggregate student loan balances have nearly doubled to a total of $1 trillion, the analysts said.

"The younger buyer is broke," said Anthony Pratt, vice president of Americas forecasting for Polk. "This demographic has been the hardest hit, from unemployment, from net worth, from income - all factors that would influence demand for high-priced consumer goods like an automobile."

Pratt said he's not sure exactly when young people will start buying cars in big numbers again, but he's confident they will.

Statistics show that as people age, they get jobs, get married and eventually have families and buy cars, Mohatarem said. "It's not because their preferences have changed. It's because of their needs. The income isn't there. The jobs aren't there. They grow older, that changes."
